our FOUNDER

Early Life and Inspiration

Russell Fieberg’s story is a classic example of American ingenuity. Raised in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1924, Russell learned the value of self-reliance early on. By his teens, he was already building radios, motorboats, and hot rods—laying the groundwork for a lifetime of innovation.

Service and Technical Expertise

During World War II, Russell served with the 178th Ordnance Division, supporting key operations from Normandy to Paris. After the war, he attended technical school and became a master welder at the Nash factory in Wisconsin, before moving to Southern California in 1950 to start his family and career.

Career and Entrepreneurial Beginnings

Russell’s career began at Douglas and soon shifted to the electrical connector industry, where he patented several designs and became known for creative problem-solving. In 1974, facing an economic downturn and industry layoffs, Russell decided to start his own business in his garage, launching Russtech Engineering Co., Inc. with a single product—a coax gage kit.

Growth and Family Partnership

Russell’s son, Don Fieberg, joined the venture, bringing design expertise and determination. Together, they moved the business into its first shop in Huntington Beach, California, overcoming early challenges through perseverance and teamwork.

Innovation and Industry Impact

Russtech quickly became an authorized repair facility for Burndy hand tools, serving local aerospace wire shops. When a major aerospace company faced connector failures, Russell invented the Contact Retention Test Tool, earning Patent 4,028,812 in 1977. This breakthrough ensured reliability in flight-critical electrical systems and fueled Russtech’s expansion.

Continued Success and Legacy

Over the years, Russell and Don co-invented and patented additional connector assembly tools, contributing to Russtech’s reputation for quality and innovation. The company grew steadily, adding new product lines and earning FAA PMA certification for many flight components.

Leadership and Lasting Influence

Russell retired in 1991, passing leadership to Don but remaining active as CFO well into his eighties. He continued to be involved in daily operations until his passing in 2016. Russell Fieberg’s legacy lives on through Russtech Engineering Co., Inc., inspiring future generations with his vision, resilience, and commitment to excellence.
